Mayamiko

Mayamiko is a UK registered charity. Our vision is to supply UK and worldwide retailers with high-quality, ethically produced, African made fashion and home ware. We have created a production unit in Malawi (Eastern Africa) where we train underprivileged women in sewing, tailoring and garment making. Many of our trainees are HIV positive or care for victims and orphans of the pandemic. As part of our training programs, we provide our trainees and graduates with meals, bicycles, child care and training to TEVETA standards (Technical, Entrepreneurial, Vocational and Training Authority). Mayamiko also offers small business loans and grants to graduates who wish to start their own business or join/set up a cooperative. As part of our long term aim, Mayamiko is working to establish sustainable sewing and tailoring training schools. We use ethical labour standards and locally sourced fabrics and materials. We also work towards the World Fair Trade Organisation 10 Standards of Fair Trade. We are committed to producing design led, and beautifully made products for the Western Market and by investing in our pieces you are helping to empower the women in Malawi by enabling them to earn a living using the skills they have learnt.
