About the Smateria Net Collection
Originally designed as protective net for use on construction sites, the net that doesnt meet safety standards is sold off as faulty at the markets. It then becomes multipurpose: people buy it for drying rice, for fishing, or to protect cows from mosquitoes. Smateria purchased rolls of this strong mosquito net to manufacture amazing bags and accessories.
Smateria is a new and rapidly expanding design house that creates bags, accessories and home decor items from recycled or repurporse source material. All products are handmade by Cambodian craftsmen and women employed in line with fair trade principles. Smateria is not an NGO but a self-financed organisation currently employing 65 permanent staffs and around 15 outsourced families.
