Do You Know What You're Feeding Your Pet?

organic pet food

How much do you know about pet food? And if you knew it, would you keep feeding Mr Snuggles it? We took a look at what goes into those cans, and it isn't pleasant. If you're delicate of stomach we suggest you skip this next paragraph.

Pet food mainly contains meat. Or more accurately, meat by-products. This is any part of an animal that isn't fit for human consumption - head, feet, entrails, lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, liver, stomach, bones, blood, intestines, and any other part of the carcass not fit for us to eat. That's not too awful, after all some of these bits are considered delicacies around the world. However the other common ingredient in pet food is meat meal. This is where it gets a bit grim. Meat meal can contain the boiled down flesh of animals we would find unacceptable for consumption. Anything from zoo animals to road kill to livestock referred to as 4-D - dead, diseased, disabled, dying. This is then all ground up together and cooked. That fatty layer you find at the top of cans of pet food? That's the grease that is removed during the cooking process and added to entice hungry cats and dogs. Oh and sometimes cat and dog meat is found in cat and dog food. Pretty grim right? But worse than that, it's not all that healthy for your beloved pets. The absence of real chunks of meat means an absence of any real nutrients and vitamins and worryingly, some medication used for putting down the zoo animals can survive the cooking process. Yes, you might feeding your pet poison.

The other ingredients are mainly cheap grains used to bulk up the food and then a bucket load of preservatives are added and it's all canned up and ready for your furry friend.

Still want to feed it to them?

Thought not. But luckily there is an alternative. Natural pet food is made with real, human standard meat, organic vegetables, rice and barley. No artificial colours or preservatives, no soya and no wheat to bulk it out. Just Real Food. Food that even you would want to eat. Food that is naturally packed with nutrients, vitamins and all the good stuff that your pet needs for a healthy life.

When you put it like that, there's just no comparison is there?
