Hemp Oil - It's About To Change Your Life

When you mention hemp, most people automatically think of some hippy, itchy material and the faint smell of patchouli. You probably won’t think about cooking oil. But hemp oil is precisely what I’m about to tell you about.

Hemp oil was brought to our supermarket shelves by the farming (and famous film industry) couple Henry Braham and Glynis Murray. They were looking for a sustainable crop to grow and stumbled upon hemp.

Hemp is an amazing crop with a whole variety of uses and benefits. In terms of farming, it requires no pesticides, it captures a high amount of carbon as it grows and it’s wanted in the marketplace as a renewable fibre. Not only that but hemp itself is incredible healthy. It contains the healthiest oil available with the highest amount of polyunsaturated fat and rich in the important essential fats Omega 3 and GLA (the active ingredient in Evening Primose Oil). These fats are essential for the immune system, good cholesterol balance, healthy hair and skin and also brain development in children. Not to mention that hemp oil has half the saturated fat of olive oil and 25 times more Omega 3.

Blimey.

So it’s no wonder that Henry and Glynis were excited when they discovered that this hemp oil tasted good too.

For 10 years they worked on getting the hemp oil just right. And finally they released GOOD OIL, a natural, cold-pressed oil made from hemp seeds.

But they didn’t stop there. They went on to get this super-plant into many other food products such as dressings, mayonnaises, a protein supplement for sports, body-building and nutritive purposes, a protein powder and also the UK’s first hemp milk.

Oh and one last thing to add to the list of how amazing it is, for the last 18 months they have been using the straw produced by growing hemp to use as highly thermal efficient building materials.

Wow.

So, this stuff does some good things. But what does it taste like?

Well it has a delicious and slightly nutty taste to it that that goes brilliantly drizzled over salads and breads. I also used it for frying and cooking and can report that my very picky boyfriend went back for seconds.

And if the recommendations of my boyfriend doesn’t win you over then I’ll also add that both Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall are big fans. I think that should sway you.

I love the Good Oil, not only is it great in salad dressings it is fantastic for hair. I put it on the ends of my long dry hair, leave overnight then wash as usual. It washes out really easily and leaves my hair soft and shiny with no oily residue at all.

Hemp in any shape or form is good....the seeds taste good fried like popcorn, the oil has Omega 3, 6 and 9. The production is sustainable. The clothes are warm and durable. The paper is sustainable and should replace wood. Most importantly it is YUMMY on my TUMMY :)

I love hemp because it's a greener alternative to olive oil and it's produced in the UK. Hemp is so versatile, i'm actually using a hemp face cream by MuLondon which is great for spots and it smells wonderful. I'd use the Italian Herbs Good Seed as a crust on salmon fillets baked in the oven.
